The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has reportedly launched an investigation into whether Telstra is misusing its market power by not allowing other carriers to resell its 4G/LTE services.
Business Spectator reports the ACCC has been conducting a fact-finding mission since September, following complaints from Macquarie Telecom and other Telstra resellers.
The carriers reportedly claim Telstra promised it would open up its network to resellers at the start of this year but now says it will make the wholesale services available by June 2016.
The carriers also allege Telstra is requiring them to use a wholesale platform that offers a 4G service with less functionality and coverage than Telstra’s retail customers, along with lower data quotas.
The investigation comes after Telstra began rolling out next-generation 4GX technologies with peak speeds of up to 450Mbps in selected capital city CBDs, along with technology allowing 4G voice calls and broadcasts to mobiles
As of publication, neither Telstra nor the ACCC have released an official statement on the matter.
