Sony announces Xperia T2 Ultra 6-inch phablet

The International CES might be over for 2014, but the major product announcements from the global tech giants keep coming.

Sony has announced it is releasing a new 6-inch 4G/LTE Android phablet called the Xperia T2 Ultra, a similar form factor to Samsung’s Galaxy Note, which it will market at a mid-range price point.

The Xperia T2 Ultra is built around a 1.4 GHz Qualcomm quad-core Snapdragon processor and runs Android 4.3 JellyBean.

It features a 6-inch, 720 x 1080 pixel OLED display and measures 165.2 x 83.8 x 7.65 mm, with a weight of 172 grams.

It also includes 1 GB of RAM and just 8GB of on-board storage, although this is expandable to 32 GB through MicroSD.

In terms of cameras, it features a 13-megapixel front facing camera and a 1.1-megapixel rear camera, along with a range of photo editing apps along users to retouch photos and share photos on Facebook.

The new device will be primarily aimed at consumers in China, the Middle East, Africa and the Asia Pacific, although it is unclear at this point whether it will be released in Australia.

The new device will also be available overseas as a dual-SIM model, although this version is unlikely to be released in Australia.
