Bing continues to gain market share

Microsoft’s Bing search engine is continuing to gain market share, but it is a long way behind Google in the online search market, according to new statistics from comScore.

When Bing launched on 31 May, it held just 8% of the market, but over two months the site has moved its share up to 8.9%, with growth actually higher in July than June.

Additionally, the figures found that Yahoo’s market share dropped from 20.1% to 19.3%, with Bing likely to take much of that traffic when Bing takes over Yahoo’s search functions soon.

Meanwhile, Google has lost just 0.3% to 64.7%, and is still the clear market leader in the online search market.

The real test will come when Bing takes over Yahoo’s search when the Microsoft/Yahoo deal is finalised, with many analysts undecided on whether the combined entity can take market share away from Google.
