Troubled handset manufacturer Nokia has announced that it will cut 3,500 jobs worldwide in its manufacturing lines.
The move comes after the company has attempted to restructure itself, partnering with Microsoft to build new handsets powered by the Windows Phone OS.
“Nokia plans to close its manufacturing facilities in Cluj, Romania, by the end of 2011 … and plans to close its (locations and commerce development) operations in Bonn, Germany and Malvern, US,” it said in a statement.
“With these planned changes, we will emerge as a more dynamic, nimble and efficient challenger,” chief executive Stephen Elop said.
