Microsoft and Samsung have signed a deal that will see the latter company pay Microsoft royalties for selling handsets powered by Android software.
The two companies have said they will continue to work together with Windows Phone OS-powered devices.
“Through the cross-licensing of our respective patent portfolios, Samsung and Microsoft can continue to bring the latest innovations to the mobile industry,” Samsung mobile communications executive vice president of global product strategy Won-Pyo Hong said in a statement.
“We are pleased to build upon our long history of working together to open a new chapter of collaboration.”
The move comes despite Google wanting smartphone manufacturers to access the software for free.
