Wikileaks claims funding has been cut as US Government says Iraq leaks didn’t reveal key information

Wikileaks founder Julian Assange has warned of a huge internet backlash after the internet payment site that collects Wikileaks’ donations apparently blocked the site’s account.

According to a report in The Guardian, Assange claims a payments website called Moneybookers blocked Wikileaks’ account after discovering Wikileaks has appeared on several government internet blacklists.

The claim comes after it was revealed that Secretary of Defense Robert Gates believes that no key US intelligence was put at risk by Wikileaks’ release of 70,000 documents about America’s involvement in the Iraq war.

“The initial assessment in no way discounts the risk to national security,” Gates wrote in a letter about the leak.

“However, the review to date has not revealed any sensitive intelligence sources and methods compromised by the disclosure.”

There are rumours Wikileaks is preparing to release another 400,000 documents regarding the war.
