Facebook shuts down clickjackers

Social network Facebook has stopped a group of “clickjackers” who were scamming people with fake status updates regarding users getting revenge on romantic partners.

The scam worked by infiltrating a user’s news feed with a status update connected to a link, with a suggestion the content contained information on how someone went too far in getting revenge on an ex-girlfriend.

However, in order to connect to the link, users had to click on boxes that actually spread the message to other friends.

“We’ve disabled the page,” Facebook told AFP. “As always, we advise people not to click on suspicious-looking links, even if they’re from friends.”
