Foursquare, the location-based social network which allows users to “check-in” to businesses and places they visit, has now cracked three million users.
The company is becoming increasingly popular in the US, and in Australia. Each user has a profile, and uses that to “check-in” to businesses whenever they visit that business or location, and then shares that information with friends.
Users can even become “mayor” of a particular location by visiting it more times than any other user. Some businesses are even rewarding these mayors by offering discounts.
Co-founder Dennis Crowley told the LA Times the company cracked three million users after Facebook launched its Facebook Places program last week, a similar type of location-based venture.
