Only 16% to join NBN, forecasts show

New figures from the Tasmanian government reveal only 16% of homes and businesses near National Broadband Network infrastructure would connect to the network even after 15 years.

As reported by The Australian, the new figures show the take-up rate of the network might be lower than expected.

The network is currently being rolled out in Tasmania, which will serve as a testing area for the rest of the country. Already ISPs iiNet and Primus are beginning to sign up customers.

However, it is understood the low take-up rate in the Government’s reports are only estimates, and are based on relatively low forecasts.

Other documents recovered their FOI laws show the Tasmanian Government wanted to originally use wireless technology for the network.
