New figures from analytics researcher Net Applications reveal Microsoft’s popular Internet Explorer browser is continually losing ground to rivals Firefox and Chrome.
The new figures show the various versions of IE on the market have about a 62% market share, down from 68.5% last March. During that same period, Google’s Chrome gained from 1.6% to 5.2%, while Firefox and Safari gained about 1% each to 24.4% and 4.5% respectively.
The figures also show IE6 losing ground to the tune of 11%, with the latest version, IE8, gaining from about 1% to 22.4%.
However, the figures show IE8 has gained more than any other browser during the research period, gaining 20.6%. This is followed by Firefox 3.5, with a gain of 17.1%, and Chrome with a 5.2% gain.
