Google to add extensions to Chrome

Google is expected to add Chrome Extensions during the next week, allowing users to customise the company’s official internet browsing software.

Sources have told TechCrunch Google will unveil its Extensions Gallery next week, coinciding with digital extensions conference Add-on-Con 2009, a Google-sponsored event.

The Extensions Gallery is said to be like the Chrome Themes Gallery, listing a number of extensions which users can download to their browsers with just one click.

A number of developers have made their own extensions for Chrome, but so far only extensions for the Windows version are said to be available on the gallery – meaning Mac users are out in the cold.

Extensions are an important part of Chrome’s strategy, as it attempts to capture 10% of the browser market within the next few years.
