New figures from analytics firm ComScore show that 70% of Australians visited at least one social networking site during June, while 800,000 Australians visited Twitter – a massive increase from the 13,000 visitors in June 2008.
Additionally, Facebook also doubled the number of visitors to its site to six million, with MySpace also increasing by 5% to 3.5 million.
Will Hodgman, ComScore’s Asia-Pacific executive vice president for Asia-Pacific, said social networking is “an essential part of peoples’ daily online routine, providing a level of engagement and reach that far exceeds most other content categories.”
The company also said that the area of social networking is now one of the most popular sources of content for Australian users, with social networking sites recording nearly nine million users in total.
