Following speculation that Google is in talks with Twitter about a potential acquisition, News Corp has also been thrown in the ring as a potential acquirer.
Wired magazine founder John Battelle has written on Battellemedia.com that the two companies were in late-stage discussions.
“Just got confirmation from a very reliable source that News Corp…has closed a definitive purchase of Twitter for ‘at least $750 million in cash’,” Battelle wrote.
The rumour was also entertained by Vanity Fair columnist Michael Wolff, who has recently written that it would make sense for News Corp to make a Twitter purchase.
