Mozilla is developing a version of its Firefox browser specifically designed for web app developers, with the new software set to be released on November 10.
Along with the features in the regular Firefox browser and its developer tools, the developer edition adds two new features called WebIDE and Firefox Tools Adapter.
Based on the CodeMirror editor with the tern.js code analysis framework, WebIDE is an integrated editor for HTML, JavaScript, and CSS files. It also allows app developers to test their code in a Firefox OS simulator or by installing the code directly onto a Firefox OS device.
WebIDE also includes the Firefox Remote Debugging Protocol which allows Firefox’s debugging tools to work on remote devices running over USB, and currently supports Firefox Desktop, Firefox Android and Firefox OS.
Meanwhile, Firefox Tools Adaptor allows developers to use the Firefox developer tools to work with other browser engines, starting with Chrome on Android and Safari on iOS. It currently supports Inspector, Debugger and Console, but Mozilla promises more tools in the future.
