You gotta keep ‘em separated: Google not merging Chrome OS and Android

Google has announced that it intends to keep its Chrome OS and Android platforms separate, despite the two platforms now being managed by the same executive.

Last week, SmartCompany reported that Andy Rubin had resigned as the head of Google’s Android team, with Chrome head Sundar Pichai taking over Rubin’s responsibilities.

The news had led to speculation that Google was planning on merging the two platforms.

Reuters reports that Google executive chairman Eric Schmidt confirmed he intends to keep the two platforms separate, during a recent speech in India.

However, Schmidt says there will be an “increased commonality” between devices running the two platforms.
