Yahoo! has released an integrated web browser and search tool named Axis into the crowded Apple iPad and iPhone (iOS) web browser market.
According to Forbes, Yahoo! intends to release the browser for other platforms in the near future, including Windows RT and Android, although it currently has no plans to support BlackBerry. The company also intends to launch a plugin that will integrate the search features with Internet Explorer and Firefox on desktop PCs.
The company cites the ability to “swipe” through search results and thumbnail images of search results as key features of its new browser.
However, Yahoo! is entering into an already crowded mobile web browser marketplace in which, as of March this year, 79.81% of users chose to use the default browsers shipped with iOS and Android devices.
