Nearly half of all US smartphone consumers used a mobile shopping app during June, with the average consumer using a shopping app 17 times during the month, according to a new Nielsen survey.
The survey reveals that the largest audiences were for established eCommerce brands including eBay (13,161,000 users), Amazon (12,122,000 users) and Groupon (11,942,000 users).
Traditional bricks and mortar retailers Walgreens (2,810,000 users) and Target (2,215,000 users) have also made a successful transition to mobile retail, with both retailers among the ten most popular mobile commerce apps.
However, while Walmart is a far larger traditional retail chain than either Walgreens or Target, its mobile shopping app does not appear among the top 10 mobile retailers.
