Twitter used by 15% of US internet users, only 8% tweet daily

A new study has revealed that 15% of internet users in the US use the Twitter social network, with only 8% using the service in a typical day.

The Pew Internet and American Life Project study found that Twitter use was highest among 18-29 year olds (26%), users with no high school diploma (22%), African Americans (28%), and in households earning less than $US30,000 per annum.

Similarly, on a typical day, adults 18-24 (20%) were significantly more likely to use the service, with only 1% of consumers aged 65 or over tweeting on a typical day.

Twitter users in the US are also significantly more likely to live in an urban (19%) or suburban (14%) area, with only 8% of rural internet users using the social network.

The study also says about 80% of US adults are classified as “internet users”, with consumers who don’t use the internet excluded from the report.
