Telstra is negotiations to sell its New Zealand division to Vodafone New Zealand, according to reports.
According to Delimiter, Telstra has confirmed that it is in talks to sell its wholly-owned TelstraClear division, which includes the company’s fixed and mobile assets in New Zealand, to Vodafone.
Telstra currently provides its mobile services on Vodafone’s New Zealand mobile network under a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) arrangement, while its fixed line and broadband services are provided through a backhaul network Telstra acquired through its 2001 takeover of Clear Communications.
If the negotiations are successful, it would create a strong competitor to New Zealand’s incumbent carrier, Telecom New Zealand.
