Samsung to demo single-app “smart home solution” at IFA, alongside Galaxy Gear smartwatch

Samsung is set to demonstrate a prototype of its single-app controlled “smart home solution” alongside its Galaxy Note 3 tablet and Galaxy Gear smartwatch at the IFA show in Berlin, ahead of its official launch next year.

The IFA, or Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin, is one of the largest annual consumer electronics trade shows in Europe, which this year will run from September 6 to September 11.

This years’ event takes place just days after the company unveils its Galaxy Gear smartwatch and Galaxy Note phablet on September 4th, ahead of Apple unveiling the latest iPhones on September 10.

The Galaxy Gear and Galaxy Note will then be demonstrated alongside a new range of curved AMOLED televisions and a demo of the smart home system.

Korea IT News reports the company will also unveil a demo of an app that will monitor and control Samsung’s entire range of home appliances, including air-conditioners, refrigerators and other appliances.

The app will be controlled through an app installed on Samsung’s smart TVs, which will be accessible by pressing a special button on the remote control.

Choi Goo-yeon, an executive director of the digital appliances division says the company hopes to leverage its dominant position in the television market, where it has been the largest company by volume for the past eight consecutive years.

“Connection with consumer electronics products, smart TVs and smartphones will increase, and thus the age of smart home providing new services is coming our way,” Choi Goo-yeon said.

“With endless researches and investments, we will lead smart consumer electronics.”
