Samsung could be on the verge of releasing a smartwatch and a 21-inch tablet, according to reports.
Patently Apple reports Samsung is working on a new smartwatch, tentatively known as the Samsung Gear, which it hopes to release ahead of Apple’s anticipated smartwatch.
There is some speculation the watch, which will be a smartphone accessory, could be released alongside either the Galaxy Note 3 or a Tizen-based smartphone.
Reports of a Samsung smartwatch first surfaced in March during an interview with a senior company executive in Seoul.
“We’ve been preparing the watch product for so long,” Samsung mobile executive vice president Lee Young Hee said during the interview.
“We are working very hard to get ready for it. We are preparing products for the future, and the watch is definitely one of them.”
The reports come less than 24 hours after Samsung’s Android partner, Google, began advertising for a “wearable design team” senior director of industrial design.
Meanwhile, shipping reports have surfaced in India purporting to show four shipping records relating to the arrival of a sample 12.2 inch tablet PC device at Delhi Airport on July 19, as well as Bangalore Airport on June 13 and 15.
The new device, marked “for testing and evaluation purposes”, carries an internal part number SM-P905. The news has prompted speculation Samsung could be about to release a tablet PC running Android 4.2.
