Samsung overtakes Nokia as Finland’s top mobile phone maker as new device details emerge

Samsung has overtaken Nokia as the largest mobile phone company in Finland, as new details emerged about forthcoming products from the Korean tech giant emerged.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Samsung shipped 211,000 handsets to Finland during 2011, according to figures compiled by analytics firm IDC.

In an embarrassing blow to Nokia and its embattled chief executive, Stephen Elop, Nokia only managed to ship 196,000 units to its home market, meaning it has fallen out of the top sales spot even in its own market.

Meanwhile, new details have emerged about several key Samsung products ahead of a major event planned for June 20 in London.

The first is that sources within the company have confirmed to Reuters that the company is looking at using Intel Clover Trail+ processors, rather than ARM processors, for its next Galaxy Tab 10.3 tablet.

As SmartCompany reported, speculation about the possible processor switch first emerged earlier this month, after benchmark tests revealed a new Android tablet with the serial number “GT-P5210” with “Samsung” as a manufacturer appearing in the testing records of benchmarking site GFXBench.

Samsung is also believed to be working on new ATIV tablets, running Windows, based on Windows processors.

The second piece of news to emerge, again from Reuters, is new details about Samsung’s forthcoming Galaxy S4 Mini smartphone.

The S4 Mini will feature a 4.3-inch screen, which is smaller than the 5-inch screen on the Galaxy S4 but larger than Apple’s 4-inch iPhone 5 screen, along with an 8 megapixel rear camera (compared to 13 megapixels on the S4).
