Consumer electronics giant Samsung has announced a record $US7.4 billion third-quarter profit, citing strong sales of its Android-based Galaxy smartphones and tablets.
According to Tom’s Hardware, the figure represents a year-on-year third-quarter operating profit increase of 91%.
Revenue for the quarter to September 30 stood at $US47.5 billion, a 26% year-on-year increase, with the company’s mobile products division contributing $US23.9 billion.
Meanwhile, Samsung’s display business reported an operating profit of $US1 billion, despite a reduction in orders from consumer electronics rival Apple, marking a return to profitability for the division.
