Record loss at Sony as new CEO takes control

Sony has forecast a record annual loss of $US 6.4 billion, less than two weeks after new CEO Kazuo Hirai took control of the company.

According to CNN Money the losses are more than double the initial estimated $US 2.7 billion forecast in February, with the company responding by announcing plans to cut 10,000 jobs worldwide.

When the initial losses were announced in February, Hirai announced that he intended to refocus the company on networks and software.

Hirai took over from Sir Howard Stringer as the CEO of the tech giant on April 1.
