Qualcomm orders websites to pull document showing second quarter release for Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie

Fabless chipmaker Qualcomm has ordered several websites to remove a document showing a second quarter release for Google’s forthcoming Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie platform.

A document, reportedly from Qualcomm, leaked to a number of Android news sites, reportedly showing a history of Android releases along with a “K” release falling between April and June of 2013.

Later in the document, the new Android version was explicitly referred to as “Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie”.

The product roadmap also references a new device running the company’s Snapdragon processor being launched alongside the new platform during the second quarter, with two more devices to be released during the third quarter.

The release date is credible, given that Google’s annual I/O conference falls in May, with the conference usually featuring an unveiling of the company’s Nexus smartphones and devices.

However, within hours of the document being posted online, several of the websites, including Android Authority, pulled the posts and replaced them with a notice reading:

“The information previously posted at this URL contained Qualcomm confidential and copyrighted information that was posted without Qualcomm’s authorization. It has been removed at Qualcomm’s request. Please immediately destroy any copies that you may have made of this information.”
