Proview victory in Huizhou: Chinese court orders Apple iPads off shelves

The Intermediate People’s Court of Huizhou, in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong, is ordering retailers to pull iPads from store shelves as part of a copyright dispute between Apple and Proview Technology (Shenzhen) Co Ltd.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Proview has filed similar cases against retailers and merchants in around 40 Chinese cities.

The latest ruling stems from an ongoing intellectual property dispute between Proview and Apple over which company owns the rights to the “iPad” trademark in mainland China.

Apple maintains that it purchased the trademark from a Taiwanese Proview subsidiary in 2009, while Proview maintain that the deal never included the rights to the brand in mainland China.
