Nokia CEO Stephen Elop has confirmed that the company will end development on the Meltemi featurephone platform but will continue development on the Qt toolkit, following the announcement of 10,000 layoffs last week.
Before signing on to Windows Phone, Nokia had been working on two Linux-based platforms (Meltemi for featurephones and Meego for smartphones) that it originally hoped to use as a replacement for Symbian.
The company also purchased a toolkit named Qt, also used in the Linux KDE environment, which it hoped would help unify its development platforms.
Elop made the announcement in a statement to All Things D, in the aftermath of a declining financial situation at the company that has led the company to announce 10,000 job cuts last week.
