Netflix has released a version of its online video app in the US for Google’s Chromebook platform, abandoning key Microsoft and Adobe technologies in the process.
According to Muktware, the Netflix app for Chromebook has been created in open-standards HTML 5 video streaming, including digital rights management, instead of a proprietary streaming video standard such as Microsoft Silverlight or Adobe Flash.
While many streaming video websites, including YouTube, opt for Flash, Netflix had previously gone with Silverlight.
The digital rights management in the app, which protects copyright owners, was co-developed by Google.
