Nearly one billion “smart connected devices’ were shipped in 2011, according to the latest data from IDC.
The figures show 916 million devices were shipped in 2011, equating to global revenue of $US489 billion, although the company expects that to jump to 1.1 billion shipments in 2012.
“Smart connected evices” include tablets, smartphones and some PCs.
The company expects more than 1.8 billion devices to be shipped in the 2016 year, with smartphones takng up the majority of the shipments. Media tablets will still make up the minority of shipments over that time,
