Mozilla makes Firefox OS smartphone software prototypes available for free download

Mozilla has released a prototype version of its Firefox OS smartphone software for release, with “nightly builds” of the software to be released to the general public throughout the development process.

The releases are intended to allow the general public to find bugs in the software, and to give software developers the opportunity to build and test apps on the platform ahead of its release, anticipated either later this year or early next year.

It is important to note that the software is still heavily under development, may not work on any given day, and is still not suitable for everyday use.

Mozilla has posted detailed instructions on how to run the nightly builds on any desktop computer running Windows, Linux, and Mac on its website, along with a page where the code can be downloaded
