Mobile devices now make up 20% of US internet traffic

Mobile devices, including smartphones and tablet devices, now make up more than 20% of all internet traffic in the US, according to new figures.

The figures, collated by Chitika and published by All Things D, reveal that 14.6% of all internet traffic comes from smartphones and 5.6% comes from tablet devices, with the remaining 79.8% from traditional desktop or laptop computers.

Of the traffic coming from traditional computers, 85% comes from Windows PCs while 13% comes from Apple Macs. Interestingly, Apple iPads make up 95% of all internet traffic originating from tablet devices in the US.

However, a study in March revealed that human traffic now represents a minority of visitors on most websites, and it’s worth noting the latest figures do not include non-human website traffic.
