Microsoft Windows Phone executive gloats about Apple Samsung smartphone patent verdict

Microsoft might be an unexpected winner from Samsung’s devastating loss in a patent lawsuit against Apple, with a senior Microsoft executive taking to Twitter to gloat about Windows Phone’s position in the aftermath of the result.

Microsoft’s senior director of marketing communications for Windows Phone, Bill Cox, tweeted “Windows Phone is looking gooooood right now”.

Until now, Samsung has been a minor player in terms of Windows Phone marketshare, claiming just 13% of the worldwide Windows Phone market and 26% of the US market.

While Samsung’s Android-based Galaxy series of smartphones and tablets has until now been the bedrock of the company’s mobile device operations, the company might be forced to invest more resources in building Windows-based devices in the future.

The company is one of just four companies, other than Microsoft with its forthcoming Surface, to commit to building an ARM processor-based Windows RT tablet computer.
