Samsung is set to unveil new televisions, an updated Galaxy Note and a smartwatch at the IFA electronics trade show in Berlin, while LG is set to re-enter the tablet market, according to Korean press reports.
The IFA, or Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin, is one of the largest annual consumer electronics trade shows in Europe, which this year will run from September 6 to September 11.
According to a report in The Korea Times, Samsung is set to unveil the Galaxy Note 3 tablet as well as a smartwatch device, although the company has confirmed the watch will not feature a flexible display.
As SmartCompany reported, the Samsung had originally looked at using a flexible display for the Galaxy Note 3, however production issues have made the prospect increasingly unlikely.
Samsung are also fearing up to demonstrate a range of ultra high-definition (UHD), OLED and internet-enabled smart televisions sets during the show.
“Samsung’s smartphone business has matured in terms of volume and external size. We need to hedge our heavy exposure of smartphones by shifting our focus toward new businesses that are relatively weak. That’s the reason why Samsung is gearing more towards TVs and appliances,” a Samsung official says.
Meanwhile, LG is set to re-enter the tablet market by unveiling a new device called the “G-Pad 8.3”, along with refrigerators, washers and robot cleaners.
Samsung and LG’s launch comes as Apple reportedly gears up to unveil a new range of low-end and high-end iPhones on September 10.
