Google has revealed new figures showing that the use of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich has more than doubled since April, and now runs on 7% of Android devices.
The platform version figures reveal that 65% of Android devices run Android 2.3 Gingerbread, 19.1% run Android 2.2 Froyo, 5.2% run Android 2.1 Eclaire, and just 2.7% run Android 3.0 Honeycomb.
The figures mark a sharp rise in Ice Cream Sandwich use since April when it ran on just 2.4% of Android devices, compared to Gingerbread (63.2%) and Froyo (23.1%).
The increase comes after leading manufacturers, including Samsung and Sony, rolled out upgrades for existing devices, and is likely to increase further following the release of new devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S3.
