Google has revealed over 900 million devices running its Android platform have been activated worldwide, along with 48 billion apps downloaded through its Google Play Store.
According to The Verge, the figures were revealed by Google chairman Eric Schmidt during the company’s Google I/O developer conference.
The company also revealed the rate of app downloads has reached 2.5 billion per month, while revenue-per-user has doubled year on year.
That number is set to grow following the release of the Google Glass augmented reality goggles.
According to Reuters, half a dozen apps have already been created for the device, with CNN, Elle, Tumblr and Evernote all jumping aboard the platform.
The news comes as part of the tech giant’s annual three-day Google I/O developer conference.
Meanwhile, not to be outdone, Apple quickly tweeted that it had just hit 50 billion app downloads, placing it slightly ahead of Google Play.
