Google is planning to introduce a new service to allow users to store personal data in an online storage facility that mimics the function of a PC hard drive or local server, The Australian reports today.
Google reportedly plans to have the new service up and running in the next few months. Google users would be able to store a certain amount of data for free using the service, with larger amounts of storage available for a fee.
All kinds of data – word documents, images, music and video files – would be able to be stored on the service, which effectively involves storing your information on Google’s servers.
The big advantage of using the service is likely to be that it will be very easy to share and transfer information via the web, although Google will have to work hard to convince users the security of information stored with Google is watertight.
