Chipmaker Intel has confirmed a large shift in its server chip customer base as enterprises shift business from the old server giants to cloud computing services.
According to an article in Wired, as recently as 2008, HP, IBM and Dell accounted for 75% of Intel’s revenue for server chips.
However, in just four years, the customer base has shifted, with eight manufacturers now accounting for 75% of the server market.
Perhaps more interestingly, because Google manufactures its own servers for its search engines and websites, it has grown to be the fifth largest server manufacturer in the world, according to Intel.
