BlackBerry releases Secure Work Space suite for BYOD iOS and Android devices

BlackBerry has released the Secure Work Space secure productivity suite for iOS and Android devices.

Secure Work Spaces will allow integration with BlackBerry Enterprise Server 10 and provide users of Android or iOS smartphones with a separate and secure work environment in a manner similar to BlackBerry Balance on the BlackBerry Z10 or Q10.

Key features of Secure Work Space include an email client with attachment viewing, a calendar and contacts, as well as secure browser access to internal corporate websites and document editing capabilities using Documents To Go.

The Secure Work Space is encrypted, with work files, contacts, emails and documents kept separate from the users’ personal apps, contacts and files.

The container, in turn, is remotely managed and controlled through BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10.

“In today’s ‘bring your own device world’, Secure Work Space is a differentiated solution that brings key elements of the BlackBerry security platform and mobile device management to iOS and Android devices,” says BlackBerry enterprise mobile computing executive vice president David J Smith.

BlackBerry’s release of Secure Work Space follows delays in the release of a competing product from Samsung, known as Knox Security, which was originally scheduled to be released alongside the Galaxy S4.
