New data compiled by IDC and Bloomberg show that Apple beat out Research in Motion for smartphone shipments during 2011.
The organisations released the data showing there were 2.08 million BlackBerry shipments in Canada during 2011, while Apple shipped 2.85 million units.
While Research In Motion is undergoing a structural shift as demand for its products wanes in favour of competitors, the company is still popular in Canada. However, these figures suggest the tide may be turning.
RIM has installed a new chief executive, Thorsten Heins, who promises to do something “dramtatically different” in order to turn the company around.
