The Australian Department of Defence expects to receive Federal Government approval for major information and communications technology projects valued at $550 million as part of the Strategic Reform Program, according to reports.
Delimiter is reporting that a focus of the programs will be the overhaul and consolidation of payroll systems as part of its Defence Personnel Systems Modernisation program.
A second major project would see an overhaul of the Defence Terrestrial Communications Network, with the department believed to be in negotiations with both Optus and Telstra for the project.
The overall aim of the programs is to generate long-term cost savings by improving the efficiency and performance of Defence systems.
