Apple has rushed software update 2.02 into the market after angry iPhone users flooded forums and message boards with complaints related to the device’s ability to connect to 3G networks.
But is the software patch actually working? Maybe not.
A number of bloggists and forum participants have reported that reception and connectivity has not improved. Even worse, technology site CNET is reporting that a number of users are reporting that that the patch has actually made their iPhone’s worse.
“Yes, I have about 15 apps loaded and now only eight to 10 work with the new 2.0.2 software,” says one user. “All my downloaded applications crash within five seconds of being opened,” says another.
Part of the problem is that nobody is too sure exactly what the software update was supposed to fix. Apple declined to release any details with the patch, other than to say it was designed to fix “bugs”.
Apple chief executive Steve Jobs said overnight that another patch will be released in September.
No doubt users will be hoping this one actually solves their problems.
