Internet giant Google has rebranded its Android Market, putting its apps, music and ebooks stores under the new “Google Play” umbrella.
The Android Market has been at the centre of Google’s venture into the mobile space, using the market as a place to showcase apps for its mobile devices.
But this new move suggests Google wants to bring together its apps, ebooks and music platforms under a single brand in order to remain competitive. This also gels with the company’s move to consolidate its practices and expel services that aren’t working.
“Google Play will become a single experience for users,” director of digital content Jamie Rosenberg said in a statement. “This creates a more powerful experience around Android and also increases opportunities for content partners”.
