Less than a week after Google announced Android 5.0 Jellybean, the first speculation has already emerged about its successor.
According to The Verge, sources at Google have leaked that the internal working title of Android 6.0 is “Key Lime Pie”. If accurate, the news means that Google is maintaining a tradition of naming Android releases after deserts beginning with succeeding letters of the alphabet (following 2.3 Gingerbread, 3.0 Honeycomb, 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and 5.0 Jellybean).
The news comes less than a week after Android 5.0 Jellybean was announced at the 2012 Mobile World Conference in Barcelona.
Given Google’s annual November release schedule for new versions of Android, Android 6.0 Key Lime Pie is not expected to be released until November 2013. Nonetheless, the very early speculation about future releases demonstrates the anticipation surrounding future Android releases.
