App Store reaches 25 billion downloads

Apple’s App Store has reached more than 25 billion downloads, the tech giant announced last week, just three and a half years after the store was originally launched.

Apple had been counting down to the occasion for weeks, promising a $10,000 gift card for whoever downloaded the 25 billionth app from the store.

The fact more than 25 billion downloads have been recorded is also becoming a problem for Apple, as it becomes harder for users to find quality apps amid 500,000 entries in the store.

Last week it purchased Chomp, an American start-up founded by Australian entrepreneur Ben Keighran, as part of a reported move to make apps easier to find.
