The new iPad has prompted US carrier AT&T to rollout “4G” LTE across 12 major US cities.
Ars Technica reports that AT&T has announced the network expansion, which will cover cities in seven states, including Baton Rouge, LA; Staten Island, New York; St. Louis, Missouri; and Cleveland, Ohio.
AT&T uses 700 MHz as the frequency for its LTE network, which is supported by Apple’s iPad.
In contrast, Telstra uses 1800 MHz in Australia, making its network incompatible with the LTE capabilities of the new iPad. Optus’ forthcoming LTE network, expected to be launched in April, will also use 1800 MHz as its frequency.
