Apache fires back at Nginix with first major release since 2005

Apache has fired back at web server rival Nginx, releasing its first major update since 2005.

According to ServerWatch, a key feature of Apache 2.4 is the addition of Multi-Processing Modules, which allow server performance and speed to be adjusted depending on how the server is used.

“As far as true performance is based – real world performance as seen by the end-user – 2.4 is as fast, and even faster, than some of the servers who may be ‘better’ known as being ‘fast’, like Nginx,” said Jim Jagielski from the Apache HTTP Server Project management committee.

The rapid growth of Nginx has already seen it overtake Microsoft’s IIS in terms of marketshare, although it remains behind significantly behind Apache.
