The FBI has released a background check it conducted on Steve Jobs in 1991, prior to his appointment as an Export Council advisor to President George H.W. Bush.
According to Bloomberg, the 191 page FBI report noted that the Apple founder had experimented with illicit substances when he was younger, been the victim of an extortion attempt, and had a strained relationship with daughter Lisa Brennan-Jobs.
The report also recorded that Jobs, described as a “visionary and charismatic individual”, had a reputation for taking liberties with the truth.
The report ultimately cleared Jobs, on the basis that he “possesses the qualities to assume a high level political position”.
