Both Microsoft and Nokia reportedly spoke with Research in Motion about a possible acquisition, according to new reports.
The report comes as separate publications indicated that tech giant Amazon may have spoken with RIM about a possible purchase at some time.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Microsoft and Nokia “flirted with the idea of making a joint bid” for the mobile handset company.
However, it also said the status of the talks was “unclear”.
RIM has been a target for possible acquirers in the past year, with the company announcing disappointing sales figures and profit expectations.
