Twitter was the year’s most talked-about social network, according to new figures from digital marketing group Zeta Interactive.
According to new research released by the company, Twitter topped other networks such as Facebook and YouTube to measure more mentions in blogs, and social media networks.
“2011 is the year of Twitter,” chief executive Minna Rhee told Mashable. “For culture, breaking news and celebrities it is the social network. I think that’s reflected in the much more positive tonal ranking.”
Facebook came in fourth place, while LinkedIn came in second. “This is a market where people are concerned about staying connected with professional contacts. They need to stay connected from a personal perspective,” Rhee said.
Both YouTube and Flickr fell behind last year’s rankings.
