Sony may be working on a new type of television set that could stream content from American pay-TV providers.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the company is currently speaking with providers on how they could provide content through the device rather than through a set-top box.
The report comes after Sony chief executive Howard Stringer made comments recently about how the company may want to look at creating a new type of television set.
The new report claims that Sony is looking at convincing the cable providers to stream their content over the internet, along with PlayStation consoles and other types of products, such as Blu-Ray players.
However, the rumour comes ahead of the Consumer Electronics Show in January – during this period many reports are made of upcoming products that never actually make it to market.
